Sea Turtle Preservation

In 2010, the owners of Casa Tortuga began teaming up with the El Salvadoran government in an effort to preserve the native sea turtle population. Playa Dorada, the beach on which Casa Tortuga is located, has been identified as one of the top three nesting beaches in the country. It is estimated that tens of thousands of sea turtle eggs are harvested illegally each year on this beach alone.

By working with the governement, Viva Tortuga was "hatched" -- a non-profit organization dedicated to saving the eggs and babies of sea turtles.
